About Us
The Spartanburg Chapter of Links, Inc. was organized by Julia Spann Long of Union County, South Carolina. Her vision and dedication to the growth and upgrading of American society brought together nineteen women who believed that an organization of friendship, committed to educational, cultural and civic activities would do much toward making good communities better.
This chapter established September 27, 1975, has made its presence felt in the local communities. Is has implemented enriching experiences for youth, support for young artists, sustainer of campaigns, and provided personal and collective contributions to local and national organizations. the membership has worked to provided meaningful community fund raisers. The fund raisers not only provided opportunities for the tri-county area. These opportunities, educational, or cultural, provided opportunities for community improvement and involvement. Some of the early programming thrusts and fund raisers of the organization included; The Mad Hatter's Ball, Program and Reception for International Students, Arthur Prysock Concert, Non-Partisan Political Youth Forum, Art Exhibit featuring local artists from the tri-counties, Lou Rawl In Concert, and The International Bridge Luncheon.
More recently, the chapter has implemented programs that enhance and advance the four facets as defined by the national organization : (see link, programs)
Our Mission
The Links, Inc. Is a volunteer service organization of concerned, committed, and talented women who, linked in friendship, enhanced the quality of life in the larger community. The organization is primarily concerned with enriching, sustaining and ensuring the identities, culture and economic survival of African-Americans and persons of African decent. To contribute to the formulation of a positive, productive, and culturally diverse society. The Links, Inc. also focuses on education, cultural enrichment, health and wellness and civic involvement. The focus is implemented through strategies such as in public information and education, economic development, and public policy.
